Golden Wedding Anniversary & Helium
Article by John Rodden
54 years ago to this day, 2 people met for the very first time at the Co-operative dairy on Ponteland Road in East Newcastle. Heather had just started working for the dairy when she met Andy and she immediately fell for his cheeky charm.
By July 1963 they were engaged to be married and by March 1965 they marched down the aisle as husband and wife.
Andy and Heather went on to have 2 children; Sharon in 1966 and Pamela in 1968 that now have happy, healthy families of their own.
The couple have recently celebrated their Golden Wedding Anniversary by renewing their vows at St James' church on Benwell Lane, Newcastle.
A Hobbyweld helium cylinder was used to fill 36 celebratory balloons which decorated the function suite at Benwell Hill Cricket Club.
The gas cylinder still has the capacity to fill another 100 balloons (at least) which goes to show how just one cylinder can make a big impact to any party.
