Fire & Emergency Procedures

In case of fire

• Call the fire brigade and tell them gas cylinders may be involved
• Evacuate everybody other than those dealing with the fire to at least 60m away from the danger area
• Always approach the fire from upwind
• Do not attempt to extinguish the flame unless it is safe to do so
• If fire threatens the cylinders, and it is safe to do so, move the cylinders away

In case of a leaking Acetylene cylinder

• Extinguish any nearby sources of ignition
• Try to stop the leak by closing the valve and replacing the cap
• Follow faulty cylinder procedures
• Access to the cylinder should be prevented

If the leak cannot be stopped

• Isolate the cylinder and move to a well-ventilated area away from drains and sources of ignition
• Keep both people and vehicles away

Only use cylinders filled by a reputable gas company who fills and tests cylinders regularly in accordance to regulations. Only ever return empty gas cylinders to the supplier from which they were purchased. Never attempt to fill a Hobbyweld cylinder from another gas cylinder.
